Hammy Chaffle Recipe
Chaffles with ham cooked right in
This morning I was hungry, it was past breakfast time, and I couldn’t decide what I wanted to eat. I have been sticking to my low-carb eating plan. I just felt like I wanted more than a scrambled egg and a slice of ham.
Get creative in the kitchen
I often make protein waffles or pancakes as a way to soak up the yolk of a fired egg. Or, if we are really wanting to take time for an extravagant breakfast, we make low-carb breakfast sandwiches. Those are really good with protein waffles, especially because all of the protein powder we use is slightly sweetened.
I wasn’t quite in the mood to make a whole sandwich today, though. So, I though of a way to get all the ingredients in one easy waffle.
Introducing the Hammy Chaffle!
Chaffle?
Yeah, it’s an odd word. Because it’s really a combination of two words: cheese and waffle.
The idea here is that you can cook lots of different things in a waffle iron. And if you are trying to stay off bread, but you really like sandwiches, the waffle iron can be your best friend, helping you make all sorts of bread substitutes!
RV recipe
I did make this batch of Hammy Chaffles in our sticks and bricks kitchen. However, I find chaffles and protein waffles to be an easy, fast, delicious way to add some “bread substitute” to breakfast. Or lunch, because I will use any chaffles I have left and use them to make sandwiches.
Versatile recipe
The attached recipe calls for cheddar, because that’s what I had this morning. But really, any cheese can be used. And any seasoning can be added to the mixture. It really is such a versatile, easy, fast bread substitute for those days I’m really tempted.
Sometimes I make a batch of chaffles with garlic and parmesan cheese added in, and we eat them in place of garlic toast with dinner.
