The Minis take Michigan - 2023 Michigan Road Trip Day Four: Pasties and Interlochen State Park

August 22

We were back on the road today. But first, we enjoyed a favorite from Leaman’s Green Applebarn: apple cider cinnamon donuts. Oh my goodness, they were so delicious! Good thing we had Bill to h help us eat them, or we would have inhaled three donuts each!

Pasties

So many of you told us that we simply must try a pasty while we were in Michigan. Well, we did today and I’m here to tell you that it was our first, but will certainly not be our last! By searching the map, I found a place called Mr. Foisie’s Pasties so we took a lunch break and enjoyed a nice stop in the town of Cadillac, Michigan. It looks like a log cabin but inside is modern and busy! The menu isn’t extensive; they have three kinds of pasty (beef, chicken, and veggie) and a sweet variety of cookies, pies, and cinnamon twist donuts.

Interlochen State Park

We are camping for a few days at Interlochen State Park. It’s quite an extensive park, with more than 200 sites just in our loop. We are on the loop next to Duck Lake; Green Lake is just across the highway. Interlochen was the first state park in Michigan, and is squeezed between the two lakes. There are a few buildings just int his loop with bathrooms and nice shower rooms.

Setting up camp

Many times, we decide to be lazy and not set up outside. Today, we made the commitment because we will be here three nights. I put out the Air Gear sand-free mat to catch some of the muddy sand before we walk inside. We had discovered when we were packing up after the FROG rally, that the mat could sit on the grass for 10 days and not damage the grass at all!

We set up our new Lippert Picnic Popup Gazebo over the picnic table, and took chairs out so we could sit outdoors even if it gets a little rainy, which it has been doing on and off this afternoon. Tomorrow, when it gets warm and sunny, the roof will keep us from overheating. And we don’t have to give up our outdoor seating when the bugs come out!

Etiquette, again

When we got to our campsite and were setting up, I took a photo of the fire pit. Please, please, remember, that the fire pit is not: an ashtray, a trash can, nor a dog poop disposal location.

Settling in

We settled in, got some work done, and took a nice walk around the camp loop to gawk at all the different RVs and tent set ups are here. Bill brought a couple beers over and we sat and chatted, without worry of getting bug bites.
