Milk Bread Sandwich Buns recipe

Milk Bread Sandwich Buns recipe

My favorite bread substitute

Another substitute?

Oh boy, she’s at it again. Trying to get us to try her crazy recipes for fake bread.

Yes, I am and I'm sticking to this one.

I’ve not been disappointed in any of the “fake bread” recipes I’ve shared here in theist, but I’ve also not made them consistently over and over. Until now.

I can’t say where I found his recipe. Not because it’s a secret, but because I truly don’t remember. Reels on Facebook are 90% where I learn new recipes, so that’s a good bet.

Sandwiches

OK, so why did I try yet another goofy bread recipe? Well, I love sandwiches. I love the convenience of picking up a sandwich to eat it. I love the variety of fillings that can make a sandwich.

A fried egg with a slice of cheese and some bacon, sausage, and/or ham? Breakfast sandwich!

Leftover meatloaf? Or the last bit of steak or pork chop I couldn’t finish the night before? Dinner sandwich!

And of course any of the above can be eaten for lunch. What a versatile meal lunch is!

So, just eat a sandwich already

I have found that I lose weight when I cut back on my carb intake. Some of you have laughed at my substitution for pasta using Miracle Noodles with konjac flour, but when I’m eating 4 grams of carbs instead of 40, I can take the ridicule. And I have tried really hard to find alternatives to my sandwich addiction.

I can enjoy a nice chef salad for lunch. I prepare a bowl of lettuce or spring greens, cut up some slices of deli meat and cheese, boil an egg, sprinkle on some seeds, and top it will some nice dressing. Yummy! But it’s just not the same as eating a sandwich.

No downside - almost

Other than my bloodwork coming back with high calcium, I know no drawback to this bread recipe. And I consume SO much dairy that I can’t just blame my sandwich.

Simple and delicious

A bonus of this recipe is its simplicity. Mix 1 tsp of baking powder into 1-1/2 cups of powdered milk. Separately, whisk three eggs. Pour the powder into the eggs and mix well. Add a small splash of water if needed. Scoop onto a baking sheet and bake at 350 for 14-20 minutes. Or, divide into five (maybe 6 but I like this size) mini tart tins. They get taller, and easier to cut open!
