Honest review of Roam Echo Island Resort Near Park City, Utah
Family-friendly RV resort near Park City, Utah
We got invited to check out the Roam Echo Island RV resort in Coalville, Utah. This property features 160 RV sites, eight tents, nine clamping tents and one cabin. This is one of the most family-friendly RV properties we’ve stayed at but also very pet-friendly as well.
We stayed over a weekend in July of 2025 and found that the park filled up on the weekend but was much less filled during the week, so you can adjust your stay based on your tolerance for your fellow humans.
Our site was sort of at the back of the property, site 58, but the sites were relatively spacious with full hook-ups and featured a very clean picnic table along with grass and a rocked-in area. There was also a fire ring. Another unusual touch was that there were two dump connections on many of the sites which would accommodate rigs of all types. Nice!
We also were adjacent to sites that were of similar size but had fully fenced-in concrete pads which were intended to keep pets in the campsite without having to leash them the whole time they were here. This makes these sites a bonus for those who travel with pets as it allows you to better interact with them.
I thought this was pretty cool both for pet owners but also for those sharing the campground as the pet is much less apt to bark all day since it gets to interact with its humans and not feel like it’s on a leash. Because it’s not! 🐶
Unusual features at Roam Echo Island RV resort
Apparently this property has been a campground for a long time and several people said that they had been coming here for years, even before it was acquired by the folks at Roam.
Since the acquisition a lot has happened but one of the biggest attractions might be something they call Roam Above. This is a ropes course that winds among the trees in a large central gathering area.
After getting harnessed in you make your way from tree to tree above campers and grass. There are some obstacles and a zip line across the main grass area. Honestly this is a really cool feature to have in a campground that I haven’t seen before. It was also quite popular over the weekend. I actually would have tried this but the limit of the ropes course wasn’t able to accommodate the gravitational pull I exert on this poor planet. Bummer.
Another thing they did was have a movie night with a snack truck and I liked that they offered several different movie choices and the campers would vote for which movie was shown by responding to a text message. Pretty cool. The night we were there the movie Goonies was the choice of the crowd.
There are two legs of the Weber River that meander through the park which is really a nice amenity. But there is also a fairly large fishing hole which seemed to be a popular spot as well as I saw many, many campers with poles and a few with fish.
Of course there’s a pool area, pickle ball and all of those modern amenities.
The staff at Roam Echo Island
The people who staff Roam Echo Island were very, very nice. From check-in to the lady who oversees the ropes course the whole team seemed to be in a perpetual good mood. It was nice.
We stayed from Friday-Tuesday and the team were pouring over the park on Sunday afternoon after the big weekend rush making it look fresh again. Something I’ve not seen before was the staff cleaning the bird droppings off the power pedestals and picnic tables. No wonder everything looks so clean.
What’s nearby
Roam Echo Island is situated about half an hour outside of Park City, Utah, which is home of some world-class skiing. But the popularity of this resort town means there are a lot of places eat and enjoy.
A really terrific chicken and waffles meal with a coconut stout at Park City Brewing
We found Park City Brewing which is a brew pub that has a good variety of beers and also a decent food selection. It was Sunday brunch and both Peggy and I zoned in on the chicken and waffles with smoked syrup and a side - I got fries and Peggy got onion rings.
What an outstanding example of this dish with each item standing on its own but also great in combination.
I also saw a coconut stout on the menu which I figured would pair well with this dish and I was absolutely not wrong.
Like many breweries Park City offers a number of their beers in cans but not the coconut stout, though our server said it could be had at the grocery store in the same shopping center the brewery was located in. While she proved to be incorrect I did find another coconut stout and that was delightful so all is right with the world.
We also found Mix’Place which is an ice cream place in the town of Coalville. Something I had never seen before was the ice cream nachos which is a big scoop of ice cream with chips made from waffle cone batter and a side of dip. In my case said dip was a pool of chocolate topping, Peggy got butterscotch. If I could put in my vote I hope this ice cream nachos thing catches on - it was fun to eat but also quite good.
Ice cream nachos from Mix'Place
In addition to the recreation of Park City I suspect a lot of people come to Roam Echo Island because of the nearby Rockport State Park which features a very large reservoir. I saw a lot of boat trailers around over the weekend which means boats were being enjoyed nearby.
Something we wanted to do but couldn’t get a reservation for was the Utah Crater which is a huge cave that offers swimming in water that averages 95°F. Friends of ours were recently here and shared their photos - if you want to do this make reservations in advance. Lesson learned.
We have also reviewed Roam America Horseshoe Bend in Page, Arizona which made our list as one of our favorite campgrounds in podcast 314.
I can see why this park is very popular, especially with families. There are a lot of activities for the kids and a relaxing environment for the adults. It’s clean and well kept and maintained and the staff seem genuinely enthused about being there. Now I will say as someone who prefers boondocking and being away from people this isn’t a place I would normally seek out but if you have younger campers with you I can’t imagine a place better suited to engaging them in the RV lifestyle.
