Review of the MaxXair Pivot RV vent fan

MaxXair Pivot review

Today’s review is of the new MaxXair Pivot vent fan, a fan that can fit into the typical 14 x 14 vent hole that’s common in almost all RVs. This fan is powered by the 12 volt system in your RV and provides so much more than what most RV vent fans do.

Some RVs that I write reviews of already have the MaxXair vent fan as opposed to the lousy 4” vent fan. The MaxXair vent fan can move so much more air than the typical 4” fan that is in so many RV bathrooms.

We got introduced to the MaxXair vent fan because that’s what Rockwood does which is no surprise, Rockwood tends to put higher quality components in their RVs and the MaxXair fan moves a lot more air so you get a nice breeze even when boondocking with the MaxXair vent fan. In the case of our own Rockwood Mini Lite 2506FK Forest River also offers the choice of a second MaxXair fan in the bedroom which is one of the few options we chose.

So in our trailer, there’s a MaxXair vent fan in the bathroom and one in the bedroom. Nice.

But like so many RVers I wanted more. As it is we use these Ryobi battery-powered fans by the bed only because we like air blowing on us. The new MaxXair Pivot fan can do all that and is now built into our RV.

What is the MaxXair Pivot vent fan?

If you’ve seen the MaxXair fan you already know it’s a fan that fits into the standard 14 x 14 hole in the roof of almost any RV. There are a number of variations of these including models that only push air out of the RV, which is what we have, but there are also reversible models and even some that offer a remote control that will open the lid atop the fan.

Essentially this is the standard four-speed MaxXair vent fan but on a pivoting mount so you can use a built-in crank to lower the fan. From there you can pivot it to move air almost any direction you choose.

You can also pivot it such that, instead of blowing air out the vent of the camper, it blows air into the camper. This can be great with a second MaxXair fan as we have in the bathroom to make a big circular air movement. In fact, this fan will move up to 400 cubic feet of air per minute.

But you can also lower the fan but close the lid and just use it to move air around inside the RV.

We can pivot the fan down to blow air onto us, or blow air away from us. The pivot mount is really the key to making this thing very versatile.

As for noise it’s no noisier than our existing MaxXair vent fans so on a lower setting you barely hear it but on the higher setting it’s moving enough air that you will hear it.

For us I love the fact that I can crank this down and blow air onto us at night without having to consider recharging the battery-powered fans that we normally brought with us. This just uses the 12 volt power system in the RV.

There is a screen in the top of the fan to help keep critters out of the RV.

So where can I get one?

You should be able to get one of these MaxXair Pivot fans at the usual places like eTrailer and Amazon. As for price, I don’t have that yet as the folks at Airxcel gave us this to test out and provide feedback.

This is a great accessory for boondocking that offers zero down side to having the traditional MaxXair vent fan but lots of upsides. Further, any MaxXair fan is a head and shoulders improvement over those four inch vent fans that are so common.

As for build quality this seems to be built well and there’s a latch to keep the fan up while you’re traveling. Overall a well thought out gadget.

The down side to this is that I like it so much that now, I don’t think I’d want an RV without it.
