RVs versus hotels - a comparison of experiences and costs
On this week’s RV podcast we have a recap of Tony’s adventure to Indiana. Tony actually had planned to rent a van and travel to Indiana with it. The idea was not to stay in hotels but, rather at rest stops and in places like Love’s and Cracker Barrel. But that didn’t happen. The van idea wouldn’t have been cheaper; however, because the van rental alone was about $800 for the week. But the idea was to test the van theory as our search for a new tow vehicle continues.
This week’s podcast shares what that travel experience was like and how a budget-focused adventure without an RV differs from traveling with our trailer in tow. We also have this comparison of the costs of the adventure here.
Our Ram 1500 got about 21 miles per gallon unloaded versus about 11 miles per gallon. I traveled 3148 miles on the round trip which meant about 149 gallons of gas used. Had we had the trailer that would have easily doubled. My actual fuel cost was $446.38.
